Mother’s Day is Sunday and I know a lot of you will probably be going out to eat. In fact, this holiday will attract some 80 million diners (about 1/4 of the American population) to restaurant meals! That’s a lot of chances to blow it, big time, on your Plan Z Diet.

Here are a few quick tips to eating out on the Plan Z Diet without going overboard:

Order a grilled meat or fish. You can have a steak, chicken or any kind of fish. Ask them to grill it with just a touch of oil.

As an alternative, you can order up a grilled hamburger. Sirloin or angus if possible. Just ask for it with no bun and no fries. Side salad. Ask for the lettuce, tomato, and mustard on the side. Get a French mustard, not the sugary yellow stuff. This way you can even eat at a fast food chain if you have to and get your protein, vegetable and a salad that you can eat.

You can always get a salad, just be careful of super sweet salad dressings like French or Catalina. There’s another way to handle this. You can order your grilled meat on top of a salad. Warm chicken on top of a cold salad is delicious and you really don’t need any dressing because the juices from the meat become the dressing. Or you can order your dressing on the side and use it sparingly. Have them leave off toppings like corn and onion strings and tell them to take the bread basket away. Order a cup of broth-based soup instead.

For drinks, you can feel pretty fancy with a nice glass of sparkling water with a lemon or lime!

For dessert, try a small bowl of berries. Maybe a bite of that dessert that someone in your family ordered. Follow this and you’ll go home feeling treated but not guilty.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there from The Plan Z Diet!

Cheers,
